Hi all, So I am trying to set up my DVR (Kguard SHA 104 v2) and router (SMC D3GN) for remote viewing via android. My DVR is hooked to my router by Ethernet cable.

The instructions in the Kguard are disorganized, unclear and difficult to understand. From what I have gathered, I need to port forward three ports: 9000, 80, and 18004 This is what I did with my router I am not sure if all of these ports can have the same private IP address. I am confused as to whether I need a private static IP for the DVR or the DHCP setting should suffice. If I need a private static IP, I have tried looking everywhere on the router control panel for an option for that but I dont see any. I have tried to connect on the KView app on my android but it doesnt work, so Im guessing the port and/or IP settings have not been configured correctly. Can someone give me any advice?

So setting the IP address as static in the DVR's panel, will make the router remember that? Because the router doesnt look like it has a setting for me to set a static private IP. I have a idea of what might be wrong, please tell if im right. The android app requires: -ip address -port number -user name and password. I have been putting in the ip address field, the private IP address. That cant be correct right?

It has to mean the public address for the entire router network right? If that is the case, my ISP is Rogers, and the setting is DCHP. So doesnt that mean that the public address/WAN address for my network changes after a week (lease time is 1 week)? I would have to ask my ISP to provide an static public IP? If your isp has dhcp turned on for your ip address then yes after 1 week the lease will expire on your ip, and you will get a new ip address, which can make this very complicated when it comes to managing stuff that needs to have a static ip. As far as I know,.I've never used the app., but it does need to be set with your external ip address. As long as your router supports nat, which most do, you can set a static nat to be able to translate your private ip address of the dvr to the public ip address issued by your isp. You need to connect to your WAN ip address that is provided by your ISP. You can get that. Connecting with your android device. WAN ip Port 80 Username Password Be sure to check with your Android on it's own ISP service or other pc at a friends place. On some routers you cannot hit the WAN ip from inside the local lan.

If that other port 18004? Is the dvr's local setup page, then you definitely do not want to port forward that. If that is indeed the case, you need to remove that forwarding entry.

That is strictly for local lan (layer2) access behind the NAT firewall. Usually such device are accessed with a local lan ip or perhaps it's hostname Good luck!

Edited by technonymous, 13 December 2015 - 02:27 PM. One thing not mentioned here is assigning a static ip via dhcp in the router. Its called ip reservations and its where you associated the dvr mac address with the ip address you want it to have in the dhcp server on the router.

You can do this if you can't assign a static ip to the dvr. One thing to note on assigning a static ip also not mentioned was configuring the routers dhcp scope to not have that ip address or it can result in a ip conflict.

So if using.29 make sure the dhcp scope is set to something like.50-200.THIS SHOULD WORK FOR A LOT OF YOU HAVING TROUBLE NOT ALL. (Especially for the Chinese/eBay dvr/nvr's) I've yet to see this solution replied by anyone so I've obligated myself to post it.

Assuming all ports are routed correctly in your router for your dvr and your ddns passwords match on both dvr and ddns server and all other steps for remote viewing have been correctly taken, simply find a remote viewing app that supports adding your dvr/nvr by GID. Preferably one recommended for your specific dvr but not necessary I've learned. (Sometimes a similar program made by the same developer will work as it did in my case, the old app started crashing when opening it upon updating to a newer version). Perform a LAN search while connected to WiFi on your mobile device and select your dvr's GID in the menu after the search completes or find it located somewhere in your dvr's menu and enter it manually into the mobile app.

Try connecting to and monitoring your network over WiFi, then if successful disconnect from WiFi and ensure you can also connect through 3g/4g. I tried several ways of connecting through many many apps to the point of almost giving up and boom this worked like a charm!!! Hope this helps others as well.
