Pros: Standard across engineering, drafting, design, and many other technical and artistic digital studios. Minimalist approach at first take but the amount of options and versatility offered is quickly overwhelming/exciting. AutoCad LT offers a vast collection of tools for basic and advanced drawing. Our engineering firm has always used AutoCad and makes good with full 11x17 standard sized drawings for customers and internal designs. We like the relatively simple arrangement of seemingly endless tools, straight forward learning curve for starting out drafting basic stuff, and default options for professional presentations. Cons: Extremely expensive for overly complicated software lacking any real updates - see changes from Photoshop CS2 - CS6 and any newer software.

AutoCad feels awkward, stupid, and completely outdated. It seems to be falling behind because the majority of users are older and don't want changes. However AutoCad cannot last with this and becomes frustrating to use for more extensive drafting. There are no options for speeding up and simplifying multiple pages for one larger project. AutoCad makes everything difficult and puts extra steps into some tools.

There are some tools that are way more complicated than they should be. I don't think we will use AutoCad long term. It's way too expensive, too complicated, isn't evolving into an easier to use and better setup engineering tool, and obviously isn't getting any better with age. Overall: It's probably the best tool for drafting and many engineers right now who have a big budget. But its days are short lived, probably won't last much longer as any basic standard. AutoCad needs to completely reshape itself for the modern era and provide more intuitive controls and tools. Pros: AutoCAD LT will give most users all the CAD functionality they need when on a tight budget.

Importing PDF images such as maps and blueprints into and being able to draw over them is all that most users will ever need - be warned price and ease come with limitations, this is not a 3D package but isometric build-drawings are generally what manufactures need to build that part or even machine you need. Cons: Having 'seen' the power of 3D, one can be easily influenced to buy up - especially by a commission hungry salesman. Overall: Machine parts and plant layouts are completed in a jiffy with this easy to use and quick to learn program. Although 3D packages might offer more of a 'wow' factor, often times a 2D package is all one needs. Pros: I've been working with AutoCAD LT for many years, and have tried the other standard options (Microstation and Vectorworks).

AutoCAD LT is hands down the most accurate, quickest to draw with, and most likely to be compatible with everything else. Cons: The cost - the change to a subscription model is understandable, but it screws over those of us who invested in perpetual licences with maintenance. It's also still pretty hopeless at references, which make any file irritatingly slow.

Overall: I'm an architect, and I use this software for all my drawings. It's a fluid design and presentation tool that simply works. Pros: It allows me to digitize plans quickly and safely, I can identify each element in the plane by creating its attributes individually. I can also associate the information with an existing database. Your final product is usually compatible with other CAD programs. For the cartographic production it is excellent, since I can easily manipulate all the symbols and regroup them on the map individually.

Cons: It takes a lot of memory on the computer for processing. The acquisition of the license is very expensive. It is portable to us. High performance computers are required to work comfortably. It does not allow the georeferencing of satellite images. Overall: You can generate building plans quickly, in the same way you can design the plans of the houses complying with the established standards.

Generate scale plans for decision making regarding the creation of adequate housing. Pros: AutoCAD LT is a user friendly, all encompassing design software. The ease of use for our draftsmen is great. The design tools for this software are plentiful. Cons: There is nothing that I like least about this software except that their customer service could be more helpful especially when it comes to billing.

Overall: AutoCAD LT has transformed our drafting department. It provides for a nice transition for our clients to see exactly what they are purchasing to purchasing and manufacturing the product. Pros: Its very powerful. I am amazed how accurately the Snap functions predict the points I want to measure/draw to. Most things are pretty intuitive and the changes between versions haven't been difficult to figure out. The command bar at the bottom has remained so I have always been able to do what I want even if I can't find the icon.

I really like the 'area' function when working with GA drawings. Cons: I think the 'Help' portion could be better with links to tutorials.

I've had to general 'Google' some items to find answers. I wish mobile version was easier to use. I wish there was a large library of blocks available without having to download them. The software is expensive although probably worth it. Overall: I have been able to make clean and concise P&ID drawings and layout/utilize GA and elevation drawings of my sites.

Covers the basics! Cons: Freezes occassionally and restoring isn't as easy as I'd like. I wish it Autosaved! Overall: AutoCAD LT has allowed me to use all the necessary functions of autocad to perform my daily tasks as an interior designer. While I didn't learn autocad using LT, I found that it was an extremely easy transition and that it really allows me to do everything I need to do. Pros: AutoCAD LT is a pretty powerful 2D drawing software (3D is available with the regular AutoCAD). If you're doing layouts and parts designs, this software can handle that with quite a bit of functionality.

It's also very compatible - older files can be opened with newer software, and newer software can save files into older formats for others who are not up-to-date. It's also customizable for the user interface - if you liked the old layout of commands, you can change it. If you like to type your command, you can do that, or if you're better with the mouse and the ribbon, those are also options. Cons: One of AutoCAD LT's great benefits (Backwards compatibility) could also be holding it back - in order to be compatible it can't quite adapt as quick or as fully as you might expect.

With a relatively new ribbon layout along with mouse shortcuts, these concerns are partially eliminated, but it's not quite as quick and clean as other, newer Autodesk software (for example, Inventor). Starting up without any experience is a challenge, but this is true for most 2D or 3D design software. Pros: Most of us don't use all of the tools that AutoCAD has to offer. The 3D portion of it and the rendering capabilities. This was never AutoCADs strong point anyways so AutoCAD lT is a more efficient package.

If you are doing simply construction documents this is a cheaper and adequate program to get the job done. Its the tried and true drafting program that everyone in the Architecture and Engineering industry use. Cons: The only cons are its limited 3D capabilities, which in todays world is pretty necessary.

BIM is the way to go and is a much better way to be building nowadays anyways. If you can pony up the extra money, go for Revit. Pros: I have been a CAD user since 2005 but more extensively 2007 when I started working at an architecture firm.

I love the xref portion and the ability to layer drawings. I like that users can pay to use on a monthly basis instead of buying license packages etc. Cons: I wish all AutoCAD LT drawings when in sheet mode had the ability to create a revision history log - which could be turned on/off. Sometimes when the architect/engineer releases new sheets it is hard to keep track of revision history (for guys in the field). The log could contain revision history number and description for 'future' tracking purposes. Overall: Overlaying MFEP drawings and obtaining dimensions for onsite coordination.

Pros: For people who only likes to work in two dimensions this is the best choice. Another version of Autocad are very heavy and has all that options of 3D and rendering that I never use, but this one is perfect for me. In Autocad LT I can manage a huge range of tools for design any kind of plans, it has also a very easy interphase to work that do not require command line to work, in this version you can use PDF files and Bing maps which is very useful in some cases. The import of PDF files is secure and precise, and has a better objet selection tio improve your work. This is version is what I person like me needs to do plans and excellent designs in two dimensions. Cons: The software ahs a lot of details, but with some practice you can handle perfectly, this is not a software for people who loves rendering and 3D models, this is for professionals who make plans in two with accuracy and detail.

Pros: Timeless. I learned how to use this this a lifetime ago and can still use it when I need it every 2 years or so. Cons: Having used parametric 3D CAD, going back to work with dumb lines is a little jarring. I am used to using relations like midpoint, tangent, etc, and when I edit dimensions these relations are maintained. Editing line lengths, shapes, and positions is more tedious when when you have to deliberately create these relations.

Overall: It is the standard for 2D. I don't like designing with it, but rarely have issues. It is intuitive and plays well with other 2D programs for import and export. Pros: The value of this is great.

You can't beat the capabilities you get for the cost you are paying. This is purely a 2D drawing method with no 3D features at all. Essentially AutoCAD light. If you are just drawing in 2D it's hard to beat the value of this. Cons: No 3D elements and not always able to integrate with other features.
